KRAKUS: The 80th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II

Like 80 years ago, on September 1, 1939 at Westerplatte, the same in the Krakus Senior Club an alarm siren sounded, announcing the anniversary of the outbreak of World War II in "Krakus".

The German attack began at 4:45 on the coast by the battleship "Schleswig-Holstein" by shelling the garrison at Westerplatte and the German army crossed the Polish borders without declaring war.

The Krakus choir began the commemoration by singing the Polish National Anthem and one of the forbidden songs on "September 1" together with the seniors. In the further part, you could also hear military songs "Autumn Rain Rain", "Weeping Willows" and "March of the 1st Corps". The recitations of the poems "Alarm" by Mr. Alojzy Jaksik and "September" by Mrs. Jadwiga Szałyga were beautiful and touching.

On the same day, we also commemorated the victims of Soviet Aggression on Poland on 17 September. The Krakus choir sang a beautiful song "Camp Prayer" for the victims of these crimes and Stanisława Krzyś recited the poem "17 IX" written by Zbigniew Herbert.
